So no man eating dragons in this series.Well worth reading the entire set. All the Dragons are on the side of good , even if there riders are a little confused on the matter. Like "Shards of the first egg" would be their version of something to say when the worst is happening.
Written by Tod McCaffrey with the assistance of Anne McCaffrey it is a fine example of the series(sorry having trouble not giving away the book :) ). The amount of violence in the series is extremely low and only what is necessary to keep the plot moving forward in the direction that it is supposed to go. #1 The book:This book is not about he Dragons , but about there kin the Watch-Weyrs.
The cussing (yes there is cussing) is all a made up language and extremely soft-core as far as such things go. This is so far one of the best in the set that has come out. It takes place in a small mining village on the planet of PERN.
Will you will just have to trust me , because I will not give away as a great a story as this.#2 The series:Will if you haven't read the series then there are a few things you should know about it.
"Turning soil into lifeless dirt, searing through flesh to leave nothing more than charred bone. DAH. Seems to me that a people who can travel to and settle a distant planet would not be relying on specially bred dragons to burn away killer "threadfall" emanating from a sister plant. Only metal, bare rock, and water -- where Thread drowned -- were safe."Gee, I think I'd find me another planet. Threadfall = Thin silvery wisps (of what). that grew on and sucked the life out of every thing it touched.
Did I mention I love it. McCaffrey has written along the same lines as his mother, continuing her story line, but in his own unique way, making it "his". Loved it. Mr. I can't wait to see if he adds any more to the Dragonriders of Pern series. Loved it. Loved it.
The world is very consistent to Anne's and the characters are strong. I love the Pern series. If you like Pern, you'll like this book too, just remember it's Todd writing, so the voice is a bit different. It's a fresh look at the world of Pern, and gives us some insight into other aspects of life on Pern that are far from the Weyrs and the main Holds. I was a bit put off at first by the style of this book (seeing as Todd's writing style is different from his mother's). Once I got used to not reading Anne McCaffrey's writing though, I enjoyed the story.
Thank you, Todd, for continuing in your mothers footsteps. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as well as the other two in the series. I look forward to more from you in the future. I am so glad to see more of the Pern Series. Todd seems to have taken up the torch with/for his mother very well, and it is hard to tell the difference in their style of writing.
